Traffic and licensing department at Sharjah Police was established in 1975 to monitor and organize traffic in the emirate and to detect those violate traffic regulations.

It runs and supervises city patrols of different types; it deals as well with investigations in traffic accidents. In addition to vehicles' licenses issuance and renewal after making the required technical check up.   Besides that it makes the tests to the applicants for the driving licenses and to renew invalid ones.

The department assumes the necessary training courses for driving trainees. Recently, a specialized driving institute was established in order to offer a qualitative training for new drivers and to upgrade their technical levels.

The department comprises of three sections which are:
Vehicles' licensing section.
Traffic section.
Drivers' licensing section.
Sharjah Driving instate ( regarded as a section).
