Sharjah Police, represented by the Ports and Airports Police Department, organized a specialized training course titled “Aware Inspector for Safe Travel” in cooperation with the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services. The four-day program, held at the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy, brought together 30 participants and aimed to enhance inspectors’ professional and humanitarian skills in dealing with travelers with disabilities.
Colonel Matar Al Ketbi, Director of the Ports and Airports Police Department, said the course forms part of Sharjah Police’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships with specialized organizations and further develop its security services. He noted that the program helps participants better serve all segments of society while promoting a culture of inclusive and human-centered service for people with disabilities.
He added that the initiative reflects Sharjah Police’s commitment to ensuring travelers with disabilities enjoy a safe, accessible, and seamless travel experience, while supporting the emirate’s broader goal of enhancing quality of life for all community members.
The course covered a range of specialized topics, including different types of disabilities and their behavioral and psychological characteristics, the rights of people with disabilities, standards of humanitarian service, and their needs during travel and security screening procedures.
Participants also received training in effective communication skills, trust-building techniques, and professional security inspection practices that take humanitarian and health considerations into account. The program further included practical real-life scenarios and introductory sign language training to help inspectors communicate more effectively with travelers with hearing impairments and improve the quality of services provided to them
