As Part of Its Preparations for the New Academic Year Sharjah Police Enhances Student Safety on School Buses through Specialized Awareness Lectures

Edited by: Dr Shaimaa Al Marzouqi

As part of its preparations for the 2026–2027 academic year, the Sharjah Police has stepped up its preventive efforts to provide a safe school environment. The Security Media Department organized specialized awareness lectures on student safety aboard school buses, in cooperation with Emirates Transport and the Child Safety Department, targeting approximately 500 drivers and 440 bus supervisors. The lectures aimed to promote safe practices and enhance the preparedness and sense of responsibility of those involved in the school transport system.

Colonel Abdulrahman Khater, Deputy Director of the Security Media Department at Sharjah Police, affirmed that ensuring students’ safety during their daily journeys to and from school is a top priority that requires the highest levels of awareness and responsibility. He noted that the lectures focused on preventive measures to be followed from the moment students board the bus until they safely reach their destination. These included managing the boarding and disembarking process, ensuring students are safely seated, not moving the bus until they are fully settled, and checking that no students remain on board before the bus is closed and left unattended. The lectures also focused on enhancing the preparedness of drivers and bus supervisors to respond to emergencies in accordance with approved procedures.

He explained that the awareness sessions addressed drivers' and bus supervisors' responsibility for providing a safe environment inside the bus, the importance of remaining vigilant and complying with traffic rules and regulations, and the need to interact responsibly with students. These measures strengthen preventive safety and help reduce behaviors and practices that could put students at risk.

Colonel Abdulrahman added that the awareness sessions also highlighted the importance of school bus drivers checking road conditions in advance, identifying alternative routes, and selecting the most suitable ones considering the ongoing development works on several roads across the Emirate of Sharjah. This contributes to better organization of school transport, supports the smooth flow of journeys, and ensures that students travel safely to and from school.
