Sharjah Police Nurtures Young Literary Talent Through "Future Writer" Initiative

By: Maitha Younis Al Ketbi

Sharjah Police has launched the "Future Writer" initiative, organized by the Research and Development Centre and the Security Media Department, in collaboration with the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY), attended by Brigadier Faisal Bin Nassar, Director General of the General Department of Community Protection and Prevention, Brigadier Dr Tariq Al Midfa, Deputy Director General, along with a number of officers, officials and specialists. The initiative aims to develop participants' creative writing skills, enhance their short-story writing, and foster their passion for literature and creativity. It targets 20 children of Sharjah Police personnel, aged between 10 and 16 years.

Brigadier Faisal Bin Nassar emphasized that investing in writing and literary creativity is considered an investment in people and in raising future generations' awareness. He noted that literature plays a vital role in promoting knowledge, nurturing critical thinking, and developing young people's creative potential. He added that Sharjah's distinguished cultural standing is the result of the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, whose commitment has transformed culture and literature into a comprehensive civilizational project while establishing an environment that nurtures writers, intellectuals and creative talent across diverse literary and cultural fields.

He further highlighted that Sharjah Police remain committed to identifying, supporting, and empowering promising young talents to develop their creative capabilities, driven by its belief that investing in people forms the foundation of sustainable development. Such initiatives help prepare a knowledgeable and aware generation equipped with the intellectual and creative skills needed to actively support the nation's development and reinforce the cultural and civilizational standing of the United Arab Emirates.

The initiative features a comprehensive training program designed to strengthen participants' creative writing and literary composition skills, guiding them through every stage of the writing process from developing ideas to producing short stories. The program focuses on themes including cyberspace, road safety, behavioral issues, and national identity.

Participants also took part in an educational visit to the Operations Center, where they gained first-hand insight into policing operations and learned about the technologies, systems, and operational procedures employed by Sharjah Police. The experience is intended to broaden their knowledge and inspire them to incorporate these insights into meaningful stories that promote community safety and security awareness.
