The Sharjah Police celebrated International Inmate Day on 18 July with a series of specialized programs and activities implemented by the Correctional Institution Department in collaboration with several government and community partners. The initiative reflects Sharjah Police's ongoing commitment to enhancing inmates' quality of life while supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration journey.
Brigadier Abdullah Rashid Allai, Director of the Correctional Institution Department, stated that celebrating International Inmates Day reflects Sharjah Police's commitment to adopting best practices in correctional services through integrated rehabilitation programs that prepare inmates for successful reintegration into society and empower them to build stable, productive lives after completing their sentences.
Lieutenant Colonel Khalfan Salem Bin Shaqwa, Head of the Rehabilitation and Correction Section, explained that the programs and activities for inmates follow a specialized, evidence-based approach that addresses rehabilitative and humanitarian aspects. These initiatives support positive behavioral change, strengthen constructive values, and promote successful reintegration as active and productive members of the community.
He added that the program featured sports, religious, cultural, and recreational activities. One highlight was a friendly football match between inmates from the Correctional Institution and former UAE national football team players. The event also included awareness lectures, cultural competitions, and art workshops delivered by government and community partners, reflecting a collaborative approach to rehabilitation and reintegration
