Sharjah Police arrested a driver after he committed serious traffic violations, including reckless and dangerous driving, in a residential area of the emirate. The competent authorities responded to the report upon receipt, using video footage captured by surveillance cameras, in cooperation with residents, enabling the quick identification of the vehicle and legal action against the driver.
Sharjah Police explained that reckless driving is considered a major violation punishable by law under Article 1, which stipulates that driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers the driver’s life or the lives, safety, or security of others, or causes damage to public or private property. The violation carries a fine of AED 2,000, 23 traffic black points, vehicle impoundment for 60 days, and release fees of up to AED 15,000.
Sharjah Police added that Article 73 addresses illegal modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis. A penalty of AED 1,000, 12 black points, and 90 days of impoundment applies. Release fees can be up to AED 5,000, reflecting risks to lives and property.
Sharjah Police emphasized the strong community partnership and cooperation between residents and police personnel, noting that community members are key security partners who support police efforts and contribute to swift response and effective handling of reports. This reflects a high level of public awareness and sense of responsibility. The public is urged to report negative behaviors through official channels or by calling 999 for emergencies and 901 for non-emergencies, to help maintain a safe and stable environment and enhance quality of life in the emirate.
